Time for a long overdo update.

I haven’t posted a blog since the middle of May but I’ve been around.  I finished up my last semester of classes finally!  I’m currently taking the fall off and plan to begin my internship in January. Then I’ll be finished with my degree!  It’s so nice to have time freed up for the first time in two years.  I’m thoroughly enjoying it. I’ve been working on the spiritual me some and have made some changes in my life for the better as far as who I allow into my life and how I take care of myself.  Continuing this journey.

So that’s the long and short of it.  This week has been good and bad for me.  I broke up with someone that I thought I really liked but looking back it really is for the best that it’s over.  I’m back to doing me for a while, and doing you 🙂

I’ve recently gotten a huge urge to go on an overnight backpacking trip.  I’ve never been before and it’s something that I’d really like to do.  I’ve been car camping plenty of times (with way too much stuff), and I’ve been on many day hikes.  Day hiking is one of my most favorite things to do right now.  I’d like to prove to myself that I can live in the woods comfortably for a night or two and carry all my shit on my back doing it.  It’s such a great feeling for me to experience nature.  So I’ve set a goal to take my first backpacking trip in the near future.  I pretty much have no gear other than survival/first aid stuff I carry for day hikes so I’m saving and working on getting more gear together.

I’ve set a new goal on MyGirlFund to help with this so contributions are welcome.  I’ve also added a lot of gear to my wishlist.  I’d say the most important things right now would be the tent, overnight pack, sleeping bag, water filter, and camp stove.  These are pretty much the basics and I don’t have any of them. Most of them are big ticket items and if were purchased for me would get a good deal in return which could be in the way of pretty much anything that I normally offer.  Feel free to discuss this with me if you’d like to before making a purchase.  And of course if you just want to buy me a gift and expect nothing in return that’s awesome too 🙂 ANY help is appreciated even if you can’t buy one of the more pricey items. I was lucky enough to eat at a really great french restaurant this past weekend and wanted to share some food porn with you guys.

I started off (and ended) the dinner with pernod and ice water.  I’m all about ordering cocktails and did a little research on what kind of cocktails the french drink before going.  Although this isn’t technically a cocktail it was what sounded the best to me.  Pernod, if you’re not familiar with it, is an anise flavored spirit (tastes like licorice).  I friggin’ loved it I want some more!  They kept the water in that pretty orange pot.

Appetizers were foie gras with a cherry red wine sauce (which I had been looking forward to for weeks).  Look at that presentation I love it, although I didn’t eat those chives…

House cured wild salmon with dill creme fraiche mustard.  I learned what a caperberry was (that green thing in the corner)…

My main course was duck confit over wild rice.  This was my first time ever having duck confit so I was a very happy girl!! It was so damn good. Oh and the sauteed summer squash and sauteed spinach were pretty damn good too…

By dessert I was too buzzed and blissful to remember to take a picture but I had sabayon with fresh berries.  It was delightful.  First time having sabayon in a restaurant.  A fellow student made it in cooking lab one time and piqued my interest.  If you’re not familiar with sabayon it’s a dessert made with egg yolks sugar and wine beaten over heat until it’s thick.  It was served cold.  Verrrrry yummy.  I need to make some myself.

So I was very spoiled this past weekend and can’t wait until it happens again 🙂  Other than this treat I just worked and did the school thing.  Weekend is coming up again.  Hope everyone enjoys!!

I’m still enjoying the new house very, very much.  So glad I made this move.  There were many huge changes that came along with it and it was a tough decision to make, I don’t regret it one bit.  Looking forward to getting the rest of the little things done like hanging up the rest of my stuff over break.  After the damn landlord powerwashes shit and cleans out my gutters then i’ll REALLY be happy.

So in my last post I said it was like I was building up to the climax… well I’ve came all over the place.  I’ve got all that moving shit behind me!  I’m in my new place and I love it!  I’ve also finished up the Spring semester thank baby Jesus.  I’m currently halfway into a two week break.  It ain’t much but it has definitely made a difference.  I’ve been using the extra time I’ve had to get settled into my new house so that has helped a lot.

There is so much going on in my life right now, and it’s all about to pop. Two weeks from today I will be all moved into my new house, and classes will be coming to and end. I’ll miss it but it will be great not to have to get up at 5am and the cooking classes really are a ton of work.
